Cougars Sweep Gaels

In a Thursday night thriller the BYU Cougars took on their first WCC opponent St. Mary's College, and won.

The Cougars found their revenge sweeping the Gaels 25-14, 25-17, 25-13, after the match earlier this season.
Each set the Gael's tried to keep it close but the hard hitting Cougars would have none of that. What's more is Nicole did her best brick wall impression sending ball after ball into the floor on the Gael's side. Nicole is currently ,third in the nation for blocks per set and did a superb job of showing us why. She came out with a season high of ten total blocks including a solo. By the way the Cougars are currently 8th in the nation for blocks per set  as a team, and they had a season high of 16.5 blocks, which is best viewed in comparison to the 2 blocks from St. Mary's.

The first set went back and forth for about 3 points then the Cougars charged forward and never looked back. Jen came out swinging in that set with 6 kills to lead all while hitting .625 for the set. All the Cougars did well not allowing the Gaels any blocks while holding the Gaels to just .031 the first set.

The second and third sets St. Mary's made an attempt to come back tying the score a couple of times below 10, but never able to get more than 17 points. The Gael's tried their tipping game from the first match but the Cougars dug well putting up 34 balls lead by Kendalyn, Heather, and Tia with 7, 7, and 6 each.

Jen and Casey lead the Cougars in hitting with 12 and 8 kills for .550 and .375 hitting. Kat also put up 4 kills before going down on her ankle in the third set. Most impressively the Gael's only had Jordan Shaw hitting positive at the end of the match and hit 0 in the third set for .030 hitting overall. Jen also decided to contribute 4 aces on the night putting her just 6 behind her service errors. (The next closest is 13 in either category Heather for aces.)

Conclusion: The Cougars are awesome and are going to be playing all the way into December!
Below is a video highlighting the night.

  1. Again, thanks for this post. I watched the game, but you always have details to add that either I didn't notice, or didn't count accurately. That accuracy part is hard to believe I know, but still...

  2. My personal commentators pick up on lits of things. For accuracy I mostly use the official stats...although some people sometimes think they could count better! ;)
