In the last match of BYU's Nike Invitational BYU lost a hard fought battle to St. Mary's College.
The Gaels won in three with 25-21, 25-22, and a heartbreaking 31-29.
BYU began the match off its A-game and couldn't seem to bring it back soon enough. Despite changes in line-up that had helped the Cougars over come USCB in the morning, not enough BYU hitters put down the kills. The Gael's setter brought a quick set that BYU will have to learn to defend against to beat the Gaels later this season.
Despite the loss several Cougars created new personal bests. Heather sent 46 set to Jen who killed 20 of them. This reset Jen's personal best for kills, which she reset earlier in the tournament at 17. Jess and Heather contributed on defense with personal bests in digs, at 10 each. Kendalyn joined them on the defense with 10 digs herself but the Gaels 23 blocks really contributed to their success, as the outsides struggled to get around them. The rest of the stats are here.
BYU had one player named to the All-tournament team, Jen.
