The previous night EM had defeated host Utah in 5, and looked to continue an 8-win streak, but only the Cougars could come out on top.
In the first couple of sets the Cougars came out to win, led by Christie in hitting. For the match Christie took 44 swings and connected 17 kills to lead both teams by a significant margin. Christie also landed a double-double putting up 12 digs.
Jen and Katie helped put together a strong offense in the first two sets, that lead to Cougars to 25-19 and 25-23 victories. They put up 13 and 5 kills each for the match. Hamson also contributed 5 blocks and 9 digs on defense.
After the break the Eagles came out flying to and early lead. Shawn turned around his front row, putting in Camilla, Casey, and Kimberli for Katie, Jen, and Nicole trying to stop an Eagle offense. Despite great plays from Cougars Christie and Casey the Eagles took that set 16-25.
Fourth time's the charm, and the Cougars certainly brought on their fire! Hitters Christie, Casey, Jen and Kat came out strong to shut down the Eagles in a 25-8 final. Throughout it all a superb BYU defense played a key role. Heather recorded her third double-double of the season with 44 assists and 17 digs. Also on the diggind end Tia put up 11 and Kendalyn put up a season high of 21 digs for the match.
Well done Cougars, way to come back from a hard set!
Go Cougars!
P.S. The pts at the end of the stats, found here, are a record of points that each player assisted in, 1 per kill/ace, 1 per solo block, and .5 for a block assist. The Cougar report is found here.
