Cougars take Crown

In the final match of the Utah Invitational the BYU Cougars swept in-state rival Utah under the rug in a decisive victory!
Me with the best cousin/roommate/hitter! And the trophy! ;)
In my favorite match of the season so far the Lady Cougars laid the smack down on the Utah Utes in front of a packed house at the U of U. A three match sweep, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14, the Cougars brought home not only the Tournament Championship but also the Deseret First Duel Trophy.

After taking on the Easter Michigan Eagles in the morning the Cougars came prepared to win the match and tourney. All the Cougars came out with the same fire as the morning, and really gave the Utah crowd something to boo about.

A close first set bounced back and forth, until Utah errors and 100% (5-5) hitting from Jen gave the Cougars the edge they needed to take the lead. A total of .583 hitting for the set shows that all Cougars took their swing seriously and made them all count.

In the second set the Cougars really began to dominate with everyone swinging and making the kills count. Kat, Casey, and Jen helped dominate the set. Jen added 5 kills, while Casey and Kat contributed 7 and 5 kills for the night. Nicole also proved a great asset on defense with 9 blocks. Heather also managed to put up a beautiful solo block to throw the Utes further off.

By the third set the Cougars had found their winning rythm and came out strong to win handily 25-14. Christie contributed 7 kills and 3 aces on the night. In the end Jen had yet another double-double ending with 15 kills, 11 digs, and an ace. It was that very special Jen ace that won the match. ( The ball almost rolled off the net back to the Cougars, but then thought better of it.)

That ace brought the BYU quater of the crowed to its feet for the final time (they had been that way for most of the match). A shout-out to all of the BYU fans that came, you all easily drowned out the Utes, despite their mike. Also a big shout-out to the solo BYU fan sitting in the middle of red country, you made my day cheering for BYU while they all hung their heads.

Here are the Cougar Report, and stats for the match. Below are some of my awesome phone quality pics that I took from the celebration. Enjoy and GO COUGARS!!!!
