The Cougars went on the road to Loyola Marymount September 30, (I know I'm a little behind) and brought home the win in their very first 5 set match of the season.
All of the Cougars had a great night and many set exciting new records.
Both teams played strong in the first set, eager to see which team would pull ahead early in conference matches. The Cougars took the first set (25-23) after great come backs from Casey, Jen, Nicole, and Kat. Kat had a career night blocking, preventing 4 kills solo (to lead both teams) and 6 assists (also to lead both teams. She also contributed 3 kills and 2 digs.
The Lions found their footing in the second set (19-25) for one of the biggest set score differences of the night. Casey gave her best all night, but her attack wasn't enough this set. Casey had a career night all around with a career high of 13 kills, and 5 blocks, while also contributing 4 digs throughout the match.
In the third set Casey and Christie came out fighting, and helped the Cougars find victory (25-22). On the night Christie contributed 8 kills, 12 digs, a block and an ace.
The Cougars seemed to dominate in the fourth set, but then couldn't put away any of several match points letting the Lions take it (25-27). Throughout the set Nicole and Jen came out strong reaching for victory with their team. Nicole came up with 12 kills, 2 digs, and 5 blocks on the night, to lead both teams in hitting percentage. Jen brought on a career-high 21 kills, 10 digs (for her 6th double-double), and 8 blocks including 3 solo.
In the fifth set Kat, Jen, and Casey reached their career highs, and took the set for the Cougars (15-9). Also, on offense for the Cougars setter Heather had a career night with 52 assists. She also contributed 2 kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Shining on defense libero Kendalyn had a great night with 23 digs, nearly doubling her nearest teammate. She even got a kill!
