BYU at Santa Clara

In one of BYU's tightest games of the season the Cougars pulled out a last minute 10 point win, to put down the Broncos 74-64.
Jen came up big for the Cougars over the Broncos.

Back and forth play nearly the entire meeting left Cougar fans at home and abroad sitting on edge the entire time. The Broncos pulled to their biggest lead of the game, 9, with 14:10 left in the first half. Key plays from Riley, Dani, Lexi, and Steph V. put the Cougars within 3, 39-36, at the half. On the half BYU had 14 of 31 field goals, and 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. The Broncos also made just 14 of 30 field goals, and 4 of 13 from the arc, but were perfect from the Charity Stripe.

In the second half the Broncos and Cougars continued to battle. Santa Clara's Meagan Fulps had 24 points and proved difficult for the Cougar defense until her first missed shot with 5 minutes left to play. A BIG near half court three from HALEY proved the beginning of the end for the Broncos. Following Haley's lead the Cougars looked in to Jen and others who pulled out the lead with perfect free throw shooting. BYU's bench contributed big points, 14, in the second half to take down the Broncos.

A stellar performance from Riley kept the Cougars going with 17 points, followed by some key second half assistance from Jen with 16 points (a season high). Dani, Kim, and Lexi rounded out the double digit scoring with 11, 10, and 10 points each. (This is the first time this season that five Cougars have scored in double digits.)  Riley led all with 4 treys and 80% shooting from beyond the arc. Riley and Jen also picked up 6 field goals each, while only Jen and Kim were perfect from the line.

On defense Riley picked up another double-double with 11 rebounds followed by Jen with 8. Rebounding proved key for the Cougars as they out rebounded their opponents 43 to 32. Kim led the Cougars in assists with 3, followed by Haley with just 2. Jen and Kim picked up the Cougars 3 blocks, (2 on Jen and 1 on Kim).

This win gives the Cougars another 20 win season, which is also Juddy's 3rd straight. The Cougars and now 20 and 3 on the season while 9 and 1 in conference.
