Coming off a first place win on Wednesday, for the full story see here, Cougar fire kept these ladies in first place with a desisive 79-44 win over the UNLV Runnin' Rebels on Saturday, Feb 5. Officially the only stats I could find for this game are here and a report here. Despite listening to the game on BYU radio, where every other commercial is "Family, isn't it about time?", I have managed to break the game down.
Basically the entire game went like this: the Rebels never had a chance. Coming off their Wednesday high over Wyoming they were not about to get run'd over. After getting in the first point UNLV could not score again until seven minutes later they caught a foul, and the free throw actually went in. But by then it was simply to late, the Cougars already had a 15 point lead and were not about to give that up.
At the half the Cougars had 40 to UNLV's 24, but nearly doubling their score just could not help the Rebels. The only luck they had was at the free throw line where they shot about 40%, because everywhere else the Cougars held them to under 25%. While the Cougars themselves shot at nearly 50% from everywhere.
Proving once more how team oriented our Cougars are they had a different leader in nearly every category of stats. Mindy Bonham lead the team with a conference high of 21 points in the game shooting 66% from the field. Cori Fraughton was equally helpful grabbing 13 rebounds. Jazmine Foreman, Kim Parker, and Mindy nearly tied for assists with 7, 7, and 6. Jen Hamson recorded at least 5 blocks, the reporter for BYU's radio thought she may have gotten as many as 8 if the stats people had been wearing their glasses on straight.
Not one of these players could have carried their team by on their own, but together they are a force to be reckoned with in the Mountian West conference. Furthermore nearly every player on the BYU bench came out for at least 3 minutes, and they all contributed in some way to the effort.
The Cougars next play here in Provo on Wednesday at 7 against the Air Force Falcons. Personally I'm hoping these ladies hold them to a greater deficit. See you then!

wearing their glasses straight...Erin, telling it like it is.
ReplyDeleteWell that is basically how she said it. And what sort of writer just makes this stuff up? (Said as innocently as possible)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. We look forward to seeing the next game with you.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I can not wait to see you too. You can tell me how I am doing with the writing
