Conference Champions

Following the Cougar 56-52 win over the SDSU Aztecs Saturday, we now own a share of the Conference Champion title, and are undefeated at home in conference play.
 WE ARE AWESOME!
Need anything else be said?
From BYU

The game Saturday concluded with some of the best effort I've seen in the Marriott Center all season.

First, the character. Frequently sports teams have tendency to give up. Whether up significantly or down significantly, some teams just seem to consign to what they see as fate. Not our Cougars, and not this time. We did not have a win since the opening minutes, but the question of who would win never entered the Cougar mindset. BYU knew we would win, and so we came out strong in the second half and little by little ate at the lead until key threes by Kim and Haley pushed us into the lead and jumpers from the rest of the team kept us there.

Upping our defense and preventing SDSU's number 1 from shooting proved important in the second half. The Cougars succeed masterfully, holding SDSU to just 18% shooting in the 2nd, and converting 13 SDSU turnovers into 10 points.

Second, the spirit of the crowd. A season high crowd of 1450, also helped push our Cougars along too. Along with the players the crowd never doubted who was going to win. Most players feed off of a high energy crowd, and Saturday we sure gave it to 'em. Every SDSU air ball and every poor call was accounted for.

Special player notes include Coriann recording 11 points a 20th season double-figure performance. This is also the third time this season she's been the only player in double digits. Jen and Dani also had their first steals of the season, each had one.

Finally, this was the last game that will be played by the five seniors leaving the team after this season. Mindy Bonham, Coriann Fraughton, Jazmine Foreman, Haley Hall, and Marie Beck have all contributed significantly to this team and have really pushed it to where it is today. They go out having changed this team and will always be remembered happily. Thanks ladies, YOU ARE AWESOME! GO COUGARS!
