As I have previously noted BYU women's basketball is sort of AWESOME. Their blowout game against Utah state this past weekend proved that, again. Because for most of the world 102-63 is a rather decisive win.
In the first half the Cougars struggled to work against an improved Utah State team. In the preseason BYU faced Utah State and handed them a 84-52 loss.
For the most part the cougars looked to their freshman center to carry them along in the first half.Jen ended the first half as the only Cougar in double digits, with 13 points. All other
cougars averaged about 4 points.
In the second half all cougars came out strong, ending the game with 6 cougars in double figures. This is the third time this season with six Cougars in double figures. The last time was against Utah State in November.
Kim's 19 point are a new season- and career-high, Kim tied Haley for lead scorer of the game. Haley's 19 points and 11 rebounds gave her her first career double-double. Haley's also recorded a season-high of five treys. Jen came up with 17 points, two shy of a season-high. 13 of those points came in the first half, a record for her there. Coriann contributed 13 points, Mindy added 11 points, and Danielle made 10 points. Jazmine contributed a season-high of 10 assists.
Only foul trouble plagued the Cougars. Coriann and Kim ended with 4 fouls, while Jen left the game because of 5. At one point Kirsten recieved a cut above the eye and was out for several minutes getting stiched up. But she came back quickly, and nearly became the seventh Cougar to have double digits.
Looking forward the Cougars will play the USC Trojans at home on Wednesday at 7pm. Hopefully another 39 point game is in the future! Go Cougars!
